Our thanks to Helen Lippell who kindly accepted to offer a review of the SLA Spring Social, which was sponsored by CB Resourcing and took place in London. Helen is an independent taxonomy, search and metadata specialist, and is the programme chair of Taxonomy Bootcamp London, which will take place on 17th and 18th October of this year.
Off the very busy Ludgate Circus junction, in a discreet lane (IE. easy to walk past, as I did at first), lies the Chi Noodle and Wine Bar. For the second year in a row this was the venue for SLA Europe’s Spring Social.
Runt 50 SLAers gathered to catch up over a drink and nibbles. För mig, SLA events are always a chance to catch up with old friends and meet new ones. It’s a very friendly community where people are always willing to exchange ideas and share experiences.
Instead of having to queue at the bar, an extremely efficient drinks ordering service by the venue staff meant more time for guests to chat. I wish more places would do this. With so many interesting conversations to take part in at an SLA event, it’s good not to have to waste time standing at the bar waiting to be served.
Nibbles came out first, followed later on by pots of noodles. A few times I had the dilemma of deciding whether to carry on being an active participant in a conversation, or to take another bite of delicious Malaysian lamb curry. (Apologies to anyone who had to watch me chewing the biggest chunks.)
The event was sponsored by CB Resourcing, a relatively new recruitment player in our industry. I’m glad I got to meet some of their people, and it’s good to meet recruiters who are specialists in the kinds of careers that SLA members have.
Thanks to the SLA Europe committee for organising the event.
