A future for special libraries? Wednesday 3rd October in Edinburgh

SLA Europe Events

As special libraries and information services face increasingly challenging times ahead many are questioning the future role and model for these services.

On Wednesday 3rd October, SLA Europe is hosting a panel discussion at the National Library of Scotland where three key information professionals will discuss and debate the future for special libraries with reference to their own sector.

Louise Laidlaw is Information Services Manager at Pinsent Masons. She has a degree in comparative religion from the University of Aberdeen and a post-graduate diploma in Librarianship from Robert Gordon University. Louise has a wealth of experience in the corporate sector and has previously worked for Touche Ross (now part of Deloitte), Ayer Barker Advertising Agency as well as the Royal Society of Chemistry.

John MacColl has been University Librarian and Director of Library Services at the University of St Andrews since February 2011. He has worked in the Universities of Glasgow, Aberdeen, Abertay and Edinburgh, and – immediately prior to his present post – was European Director of the OCLC Research Library Partnership. John has directed and worked in many JISC-funded national library infrastructure projects, and was the founding editor of the library journal Ariadne

Susan Mansfield is Head of Official Report and Editor at the Scottish Parliament where she was previously head of Information Services. She has worked in a range of public sector organisations including Scottish Enterprise and HM Treasury and is a Council Member for CILIP Scotland and an honorary teaching fellow for the Centre for Archive and Information Studies at the University of Dundee.
