SLA Europe Webinar – Solide: Eine Ökologie des digitalen Seins
Oktober 28, 2020 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm
What if we could have all our digital artefacts and records in one place, a place of our own? Not scattered across platforms, or harvested by third-party machine applications? Imagine all our data living peacefully its private life, yet ready to enter any other public service, provided we need it to.
This talk is about Solide and our digital footprint. It will walk through the conceptual underpinnings of Solid, its socio-technical implications and the implications for librarians and information professionals.

Teodora Petkova is a philologist fascinated by the metamorphoses of text on the Web. Very much in love with the Semantic Web, she explores how our networked lives transform (and are transformed by) the expanding possibilities of the written word.
With an educational background in Classical Studies and Creative Writing, currently Teodora digs deep into words and concepts as part of her PhD studies. More specifically, her research is looking at the ways the Web is changing marketing communications and bringing us ever closer to walking the talk of dialogism.
Solide ist an exciting web decentralization project led by Professor Tim Berners-Lee, inventor of the World Wide Web, taking place at MIT. The project “aims to radically change the way Web applications work today, resulting in true data ownership as well as improved privacy” with the project’s main goal to allow users to have full control of their own data, including access control and storage location. Solid has developed a platform for linked-data applications that are completely decentralized and fully under users’ control, instead of being controlled by other companies/organisations.
