Sponsored President’s Blog Award
SLA Europe is thrilled to launch its latest award in support of professional development – the Sponsored Presidents Blog Award. The award aims to support those who consider themselves to be early career professionals by giving an opportunity to have their work be published on our website, as well as the chance to attend and speak at the SLA Europe conference in 2021.
All applicants will have their work reviewed by a panel of professionals with suggestions and support before the piece of writing is published. Blog posts will be accepted from September 2020 to July 2021 with at least one blog post posted each month along with a profile on the writer. At the end of this period the panel will move to the judging period choose one winner to receive the sponsored place at the SLA Europe conference to share their work as a speaker or sit on a panel.
The blog post must be related to the library and information profession. It does not need to be written by someone working in special libraries, but it does need to be of relevance to those working in special libraries.
Submissions can be edits of essays written for your degree, but cannot be published elsewhere. We are open to a variety of submission types: you can write a reflection piece, a research piece, exploration of a new idea, or anything else you think would be useful for SLA members and library and information professionals to read. If you would like to discuss your idea, you can contact the panel.
Submissions should be a maximum of 1000 words (excluding references).
Who can apply
Anyone who considers themselves to be an early career professional. This means you could have been in the profession for a long time but are now looking to move into more senior roles or explore further training, doing your masters degree or traineeship, or simply in the early years of your career. You do not need to be a current SLA member, but if you win the final prize you must be willing to become one.

The final winner will receive a free space at the SLA Europe conference for 2021, which will be held virtually, plus one year’s free membership from the date of renewal. This award is separate from the Digital Early Career Conference Award, which awards online attendance to the SLA HQ 2020
The winner will be expected to present at the conference either on the topic of their blog post or a related topic to be agreed with the award panel. This may take the form of a panel if appropriate.
The winner will also be offered mentorship for 1 year from the current president, both to support the attendance of the conference and any future career plans.
