It was a beautifully sunny evening for the SLA Europe Summer Soiree in July, and the perfect location for it; with panoramic views over London from the 17th Floor of the News Building.

Living and working outside London, I often find it difficult to get in for mid-week events, so I was delighted to see this yearís soiree was scheduled for a Friday evening. Apparently, I was one of the first to sign up, which is perhaps embarrassingly keen!

AC793A48-F032-4FA0-ACBB-F1CBEE1FD956We were welcomed to the soiree by a representative from Dow Jones, followed by a speech from SLA Europe President John Coll. It was lovely to catch up with plenty of old SLA Europe friends, meet familiar names and faces, and make plenty of new acquaintances. It was a great opportunity to put names to familiar Twitter handles, too.

The networking opportunities at the Summer Soiree were not only valuable, theyíre genuinely enjoyable. SLA Europe members are varied and often with unusual work roles; it really makes networking very easy and enjoyable. The views from the venue were spectacular, and helpfully other party-goers could easily point out the direction of their respective offices!

There were lots of current and past SLA award winners in attendance; walking adverts for the benefits of attending the SLA conference, applying for the ECCA awards, and getting involved with SLA.
