Update: Libraries Connected launches fundraising appeal for Ukraine mobile library

Earlier this year, Libraries Connected launched a crowdfunding appeal to raise £10,000 to purchase a decommissioned, fully serviced mobile library from an English council to be delivered to Ukraine.

We can gladly share the news that the mobile library we helped crowdfund has arrived in Kyiv. It was met by Lyusyena Shum, Executive Director of Library Country Ukraine. With a mobile library, Library Country Ukraine (a charitable foundation in Ukraine that has a similar role to Libraries Connected) can continue to provide a service across regions where library buildings have been destroyed or damaged. For children, each visit from the new mobile library brings new stories, characters and adventures – sparking imaginations and possibilities at a time of unthinkable suffering.

On behalf of SLA Europe, our 2024 President Julia Bhojoo donated £100 to the crowdfunding appeal. We would like to extend our thanks to any SLA and SLA Europe members who also donated to the appeal.
