Libraries Connected launches fundraising appeal for Ukraine mobile library

Libraries Connected has launched a crowdfunding appeal to buy and deliver a mobile library to Ukraine. The aim is to raise £10,000 which will go towards the purchase of a decommissioned, fully serviced mobile library from an English council to be delivered to Ukraine. The mobile library will likely be used in the Donetsk, Kherson or Zaporizhzhia regions in the east of the country.

With a mobile library, Library Country Ukraine (a charitable foundation in Ukraine that has a similar role to Libraries Connected) could continue to provide a service when their library buildings have been destroyed or damaged. The mobile library would bring moral support and a message of solidarity while preserving and promoting Ukrainian culture. And for children, each visit from a mobile library brings new stories, characters and adventures – sparking imaginations and possibilities at a time of unthinkable suffering.

The crowdfunding appeal runs for eight weeks until 7 June 2024.

On behalf of SLA Europe, our 2024 President Julia Bhojoo has donated £100 to the crowdfunding project. We encourage all SLA members and friends to donate as much as they can to the appeal as there’s only a few days left for the project to reach its target.
